What is WCS All Star Basketball?
WCS All Star Basketball is a site designed to give an inside look at the basketball program at Westbury Christian School. Westbury Christian School began in 1975 as a mother's day out program and has grown into a very successful high school in Houston, Texas. 1981-1982 was the inaguaral season for the WCS boy's basketball team. The boy's basketball team has grown and experienced great success winning 16 state championships in a 20 year span. The program has been built on three major principles: team attitude, championship effort, and servant leadership. Through the site you can information about the current team, schedules, program history, camps and clinics.
Championship Effort
Championship effort is the planning, preparing, and working to be the best you can possible be. Individuals do not become champions by holding onto or holding back when their very best is needed. Everyday must be treated like a championship day and we must be prepared to give our whole self on the court, in the classroom, and to God. We give our best because our best is what is required.
Do you not know that in a race all runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. No I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.
I Corinthians 9:24-27

Servant Leadership
Servant leadership follows a bottom-up leadership model. Individuals will not look around and expect teammates and others to serve them because they feel entitled, instead they will look for every opportunity to serve not for reward but because it is the right thing to do. If the individual becomes a servant of his teammate then the natural consequence will be team success. Jesus, the Master Teacher, was the greatest example of servant leadership. To be more Christ-like we must take advantage of opportunities to serve.
Jesus called them together and said, “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as ransom of many.”
Mark 10:42-45

Team Attitude
Team attitude is the concept of emphasizing the team over the individual. Individuals must put aside selfish desires and wants that are contrary to team goals. Individuals must align their goals with those outlined as team goals. Each player must be willing to sacrifice and commit to the overall well being of the team. It is the “pack” mentality. Teams can overcome more obstacles and trials if the team is willing to both suffer and succeed together. Team attitude is a biblical concept; the Bible gives example of the strengths of like minded groups. We have to be like minded! We have to be a team of left tackles-willing to watch our teammate’s blind side regardless of our individual cost.
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interest, but also to the interests of others.

Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ
